1The Goal
For this private home in Hubbard, OR, the client had an uninspiring, plain fireplace that was painted the exact color of the surrounding walls, causing it to disappear into the background. Rather than blending in, they wanted to make the fireplace a true focal point that would command attention and serve as the anchor for their living room.
2The Process
The home transformation began with meticulous masking and taping—a crucial step to protect the interior environment. Over the course of four days, our team applied layers of premium Piatto plaster, skillfully hand-troweling the material to replicate the rugged, organic look of deep, natural black rock terrain. This intense, dark texture was custom crafted to bring depth and robust character to the previously dull space.
3The Result
The final result is simply striking. The new "Black Rock" fireplace stands as a magnificently beautiful statement piece. The deep, dark background provides the perfect canvas for the fireplace itself—when lit, the warm, bright flames pop brilliantly against the textured black surround, instantly catching the eye. What was once 'just a fireplace' is now a sophisticated, luxurious feature that sets the tone for the entire home.
